Something to share with your newly breastfeeding sisters

Unread post by Marisa Goudy » Thu Jul 09, 2015 6:01 pm

"Breast is best" is ubiquitous these days. Up to 80% of American women at least try to nurse their babies - yayyy! The bummer is that many don't last more than a few weeks due to a poor latch or nipple pain.

Enter "natural breastfeeding." Check out this article at Mothering.com for not so typical images of mamas and newborns. This like is not what you were taught at the hospital or even by your midwives or lactation consultant. Based on research of the hour-old babies who will actually crawl up their mamas' bellies to nurse, this approach is very different than the straightbacked mama trying to clutch the babe to her body.

This is really cool. Who knew that women have been nursing wrong for all this time.

Careful there, Lany - worse thing you can say to a mama endeavoring to feed her hungry baby is "you're doing it wrong!" (Touchy lot... Blame the whole pushed an eight pound person through a tiny hole thing!) :)
