How does reciprocity look in your life?

Unread post by Lany Sullivan » Tue Sep 08, 2015 6:56 pm

Many have a negative reaction when the conversation goes to reciprocity. If you do something nice for someone do you expect something in return?

Marisa Goudy shares a positive and unique perspective that may help you look at reciprocity in a whole new light.

Thanks for sharing, Lany.

My perspective on reciprocity is rooted in what I've learned in my training as a healer. My mentor, Eleanora Amendolara of the Sacred Center Mystery School - - teaches about ayni, the concept of sacred reciprocity with the earth and all creation. It's what make the world go round - and makes life endurable - for the indigenous people of the Andes, and for people everywhere, I'd wager.

Like so many of these simple concepts from the Andes, it's easy to apply them to our complicated Western lives.

What a great interview! You might like a book called Give and Take by Adam Grant. He talks about how some people are natural givers, some takers, but others are matchers...which can be confused with reciprocity. The matchers are very much tit for tat, which is what Marisa is trying to distinguish from true reciprocity.

There is also a great YouTube video that will give you the gist without having to read the book.
