Social Networking and Search Indexing

Unread post by Sheryl Loch » Thu Jul 02, 2015 10:32 pm

FaceBook users/brands have been sharing their thoughts, post, images, videos and links for years in hopes of people seeing what they have as valuable.

One of the big problems with Facebook is getting your great post seen by the right people. We all know that Facebook is not known for search in the platform itself, but we all hope that our post are crawled by the search engines and then can be found on Google or BING.

But, how likely is that to happen?

It is more likely that the search engine bots will find us if we post on Twitter or other social networks?

How many tweets a day are we competing with for that precious chance of getting one of our tweets to show in a SERP?

What about Google Plus? Are there any advantages that G+ has over Facebook and Twitter?

To see what is getting crawled and indexed…watch this great video with the answers.

Lany Sullivan ask Ammon Johns (search expert) If Social Networking Post Show Up in the Search Engines…you may be surprised at the numbers he shares.

It may also surprise you that some of those guru’s have mislead you.

This video is short and packed with info! Take the 12 minutes to learn more about social networking and SEO.

This conversation about social and search with Ammon was SO good. It's generated so many good questions and inquiries from the audience. It's time for all of us to take a step back from social and see how we are spending our time, energy and content on social and how it is impacting our businesses.

Are we benefiting from all of the time and effort we put into social? Isn't it time we returned to focusing on smaller, niche connections and networks? The conversation really made me think about how to better operate in this social media space we all live in.

What an amazing video! I know we are bombarded by people wanting to teach us how to be successful on Facebook, how to rock Instagram, how to build a Twitter following, get your pin to be viral.

It is so easy to forget that there are other parts of the online world that matter. I love this video because it really is telling us to step back & remember what really matters!

Social Post Checker - Tweet Indexation Rate Tool

Unread post by Sheryl Loch » Fri Sep 18, 2015 12:27 pm

OK kids, I just saw a tool that will allow you to put in your Twitter Profile link and find your index percentage, your profile page authority and how many root domains link to your profile.

It may give you an idea of just how little your tweets are indexed. I am sure that the more rt's and inbound links might play a part.

Anyhow go give it a try - http://congruentdigital.com/tweet-indexation-rate-tool/

After you do your own Twitter account, do check on someone that has lots of followers and engagement to see the difference.

That tool is a nice find, Sheryl.

Its use is best, as you say, mostly for comparison to other twitter profiles, as the indexation numbers are not going to be entirely reliable. Google maintain multiple indexes, several of which work as 'backfill' indexes. When you search to see if a specific url is indexed, there likely won't be that many results from the main index (compared to competitive search terms) and so more of the backfill stuff will be listed than would likely show up in a regular search that didn't need the backfill, or which buried the backfill under results from more prominent and primary index results.

Majestic also have some great usage for comparing twitter stats, and particularly comparing the trust flow metrics. Just put the full twitter URL of a profile in there at majestic.com (Majestic also have some specialised tool variants specific to twitter).

These are some great resources, Ammon & Sheryl.

Ok, now the rest of it went over my head. I think I need a visual aid to understand everything else. :D
